Merepäevad - Tallinn Maritime days 17-19 July
On 17-19 July Tallinn will hold Tallinn Maritime Days 2009, a festival open to all citizens and guests of the capital. During the Maritime Days a dozen unique sailing ships will come to Tallinn and will be open to the public while moored by the Admiralty and in the port of Lennusadam.
Tallinn Maritime Days 2009 to be held on 17-19 July are a joint cooperation project of the City of Tallinn, Port of Tallinn, Estonian Maritime Museum, Estonian Union of Historical Ships and Tallinn2011 Foundation under the leadership of the latter. By the year 2011 when Tallinn will become the European Capital of Culture, Tallinn Maritime Days will have evolved into the most important waterfront event in the capital. With this aim in mind for two years in a row now the organisers of the Maritime Days have invited citizens to the seashore and offered them ample and diverse activities in order to popularise the seashore as a popular recreation site.
A dozen unique sailing boats will come to Tallinn for the Tall Ships Races 2009 competition held in the framework of Tallinn Maritime Days 2009. This is a record number of sailing boats to visit Tallinn simultaneously. The sailing ships will make fast in at the Admiralty and the port of Lennusadam. A major innovation in this year’s festival is the opening of the jazz area in Terminal C of the Passenger Port in cooperation with Jazzkaar. The main grounds of the Maritime Days are the Admiralty and the port of Lennusadam to be linked by the sea promenade aka the Culture Kilometre in the future. During the festival there will be a boat connection between the two ports. The sea promenade between the Admiralty and the port of Lennusadam is also the setting of „Dannebrog, Pitka and emperors“ performance staged by Ain Mäeots.
